How to add a worker/contractor and send an invite
To pay someone through Bitwage, you’ll first add them as a Recipient and send an invitation. Once invited, the recipient receives an email and can usually complete setup in ~5 minutes if they have their bank details and/or wallet address ready.
Who you can invite (Types)
When adding a recipient, you’ll choose a Type:
- Worker: Typically used for employees (can submit expenses and choose crypto allocation preferences from paychecks, if enabled).
- Contractor: Typically used for freelancers/vendors (can create invoices, if invoicing is enabled).
- Admin: Has access to the business account and can run payroll.
Everyone can get paid through the platform—either via a payroll created by the company or via contractor invoices (if you use invoicing).
Step-by-step: invite a recipient
- Go to Recipients (left menu).
- Click the Add/Invite action.
- Enter the recipient’s details:
- Email (required — this is where the invite is sent)
- Type (Worker / Contractor / Admin)
- Email (required — this is where the invite is sent)
- Click Add Recipient.
- Click send invite on the bottom of the screen
After the invite is sent, you’ll see the recipient in your Recipients list.
What happens after you invite them
- The recipient receives an email invitation.
- Until they finish setup, their status will show as Incomplete.
- Once setup is done, their status becomes Complete.
- If they don’t accept in time, it may show as Expired (you can resend the invite).
How to confirm the invite worked
On the Recipients page, look at the Status column:
- Complete = ready to be paid
- Incomplete = invited, but setup not finished
- Expired = invite timed out and needs to be resent
- Pending = in progress / waiting step (if shown)
Common issues (and fixes)
The recipient says they didn’t get the email
- Double-check the email address (typos are the #1 cause).
- Ask them to check spam/junk.
The recipient is “Incomplete”
That’s normal until they finish setup. Remind them to have ready:
- Bank account details (for local currency), and/or
- Crypto wallet address + correct network (for crypto), and/or
- Their preferred split allocation.
