Restricted jurisdictions / prohibited use cases (high-level)

To comply with applicable sanctions regulations, Bitwage does not support certain jurisdictions and use cases.

OFAC-sanctioned countries (restricted jurisdictions)

Bitwage does not allow:

  • Companies registered in countries sanctioned by OFAC, and

  • Payments to workers/recipients located in countries sanctioned by OFAC

This applies even if the company or the worker is otherwise eligible.

OFAC refers to the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, which administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions.

What this means for your company

  • If your company is registered in an OFAC-sanctioned country, you won’t be able to onboard and use Bitwage.

  • If you attempt to pay a worker in an OFAC-sanctioned country, the payment cannot be processed.

If you’re unsure about a country

If you’re not sure whether a country is currently sanctioned, the safest approach is to contact Bitwage Support before onboarding or attempting payments and include:

  • Company registration country

  • Countries where your workers/contractors are located

  • A brief description of your payment use case (employees vs contractors, expected volumes)
